Fishing on a Party Boat in Galveston

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

If you plan on going on a vacation in Galveston, Texas and like being on the water and fishing, a great way to do both is on a Party Fishing Boat. Even if you have never fished before you can have a great time on one of these 4 hour fishing trips. Most are between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM but some boats do have an evening schedule too.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

The average going price for a Party Boat trip is - and includes everything you need from fishing rod to bait. Some boats hold up to 50 people and have bathrooms and air-conditioned areas to get out of the sun if you want a break. You can catch Sharks, Red Drum, Black Drum, Trout, Whiting, and Cat Fish.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

There are plenty of crew members to assist in every aspect of fishing and will help you land any fish. Depending on the number of people on the trip, it can get a little crazy when they find a large group of fish and everyone is catching. Not everyone may catch a fish but there is usually a lot of action so you do have a good chance and it's also fun watching others.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Most Party Boats travel out into Galveston Bay and the Jetty's area so there is some riding time and if they go out to open water it could take up to an hour to get out where the fish are hanging out. To me that's part of the fun and the view of the ocean, other ships, and shore is great.

The boats cruise out for up to an hour to the first stop and if people start catching they stay until it slows down or stops. Then they move to another location and do the same. Most four hour trips make at least 3-4 stops to fish for up to a couple of hours of actual fishing. When you catch a fish, the crew will come and get it and mark it as your fish. At the end of the trip they clean the fish for you and give it to your in plastic bags. There are even some restaurants that will cook it for you, just ask a crew member and he'll give you the names.

There are several Party Boats at Pier 19 across from Harborside Drive. You can find the Galveston Port at 51st Street and Harborside Drive and go east for about 3 miles to find Pier 19. It's a scenic drive and if you go around 1:00 PM you can see the Party Boats come back in and check out the fish caught and watch the crews clean the fish that were caught that trip. You can also talk to the people who just returned and get an idea of which boat you may like to give a shot.

The ride is totally dependent on the weather and activity of the waves. It can get rough at the drop of a hat due to changing conditions. If you have never been out on a boat before, take some Dramamine (or the generic) just in case if you have any concerns about motion sickness. If you prefer a natural remedy, ginger is found to be effective for many people. Most Party Boats have refreshments and snacks available onboard too.

Even if it's not hot or overcast, you probably want to use some sunscreen since you will be in open areas for much of the time. You can get a pretty good sunburn even on an overcast and cool day being out in the sun for 4 hours or more. Better safe than sorry and you don't want to ruin your vacation with a bad sunburn.

Even if you decide not to go on a fishing trip Pier 19 is a fun place to go visit. Looking at all the fishing boats and seeing all people is worth the time and effort. And the Galveston Port offers a lot of things to see too. Watching all the boats come and go, the offloading of cargo and people, and seeing a major Sea Port in action is fun. And the price is right for just looking around, free.

Party Boats can be fun just because you get out on the water and see more of the area. The fishing is fun and catching is even more fun. And the cost is reasonable for a half day activity. Just seeing the Galveston area from a boat and meeting other people can be worth the trip. And you might even catch lunch or dinner.

Parasailing, Water Skiing and More at Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

If you and your family enjoy adventures in the water then the place for you to go while visiting Orlando is Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre. Located behind Disney's Contemporary Resort this water park offers you an opportunity to parasail, ride on a powerful personal watercraft, water-ski, wakeboard, tube ride and more.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

The center features new Mastercraft speed boats, a state of the art parasail vessel, personal watercrafts, the latest ski and wakeboard equipment and a staff of instructors that have been groomed and personally chosen by Sammy Duvall.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Duvall was a world-champion during his 17 year long career as a professional water skier. His enthusiasm for the sport has not diminished since his "retirement" from professional waterskiing and is expressed in the Watersports Center where his staff take the time to help participants learn as much as they can and have a good time too.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

One of the biggest attractions of the centre is parasailing. This is the only the only parasailing facility in Central Florida and its location will give you a bird's eye view of the Walt Disney World Resort and the rest of Orlando. Imagine being lifted on a parasail several hundred feet high as a tow boat speeds through the water below

Their parasailing vessel is brand new and exceeds Coast Guard safety regulations. They claim that the ride is so smooth that you won't even get wet. You get a choice of a 450 feet high ride or a 600 feet high ride. You can travel alone or in tandem with a friend or family member. To take part in the parasail adventure you have to weigh at least 130 pounds and be over 6 years old. However, if someone does not have the required weight, he or she, can accompany another adult or child.

Another popular activity at the Watersports Centre is the personal watercraft rides. The crafts are capable of holding up to three people with a combined weight of 400 pounds and they offer two tours of the resort area. There is a morning guided tour along Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon or you can opt for a free ride in which you can cut loose and speed through their private watercraft area.

For the Watercrafts, all drivers must be over 16 years and have to bring a photo I.D. when they check in. A credit card is required to be used for a damage deposit. Minors must have an adult present to sign waivers.

The third major attraction of this park is the general water sports that are offered. You can learn how to water ski for the first time or get pulled around on a tube. You can learn how to wakeboard or you can perfect your skills. The Centre uses state of the art equipment and has experienced instructors on hand to help you get the most out of this experience. Whether you are a water sports beginner or a slalom skier interested in high-level instruction you will probably find whatever you wish here.

Walleye Fishing on the Lake - Waiting For The Spawning Season to End

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Spawning time - or the Walleye spawning period in this situation - is a time of great tension. Tension not only for the Walleye fish themselves but also the avid fisherman. One is waiting to get it over. The other is waiting for the period to end and the legal fishing season to begin.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

If the time period of spawning, that is the time when the Walleye fish produce fish eggs - multitudes of aquatic eggs, in an effort to propagate the species, and as well produce those "Killer" Walleyes for the next seasons of sportsmen - is a brief, variable period lasting from only one to three days for individual female Walleye fish and a little bit longer for individual males. The Spawn period includes the peak spawning temperature range for walleyes at approximately 42 - 49 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

However , since Walleyes begin spawning at temperatures as low as 48 degrees F. , and have even been recorded , by most reputable biologists , at temperatures as high as 50 degrees Fahrenheit. , it is not only a matter of one single factor, temperature, as to when the spawning time periods of this marine creature occurs. Indeed it can be said authoritatively that the key indicator for the arrival of the Spawn Period and times of spawning, occurs when the majority of these male Walleye cold-blooded aquatic vertebrates are milting and the females eggs have ripened. While it can be said that while technically a fish that has not spawned and is still in the "Pre-Spawn" period, the reality is the closer a given fish or group of fish come to actually spawning themselves, the less likely to strike at the bait on your fishing line and the bait and lures of your fishing buddies and friends. Count on this fact of life to be a truism.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Feeding activity during actual spawning itself can be counted on to be minimal if not non-existent. Lots of luck if you are planning a fishing excursion that weekend. However some of the time cantankerous milting males, cruising around looking and waiting for a female or females will make actual reflex strikes at baits, lures or other possible intruders in their staging areas. However during the actual spawning time period activity itself these same male fish will not strike at your lures. On the other hand it must be noted that there are small exceptions in the minds and mythology of serious Walleye aficionados. One possible exception is in small rivers. Where Walleyes have been known to be caught and landed during spawning moments themselves. Yet by and large, actual spawning time is a poor if not absolutely terrible choice of time to go fishing.

However when planning your fishing trips and excursion whether it is a day trip or a major jaunt to a fishing lodge or lodges of your choice - that spawning time across various waterways is not cast in stone , nor is it absolute. While spawning is taking place in one area or lake , there can be groups of Walleye fish of your angling dreams in other areas nearby either who are waiting to spawn or have already completed the spawning process and phases. Consider spawning and the "Spawn Period" to be a local activity. On the other side of the road or fishing line however you can generally count that the great majority of the Walleye fish population in a given area will spawn in a two week period itself or even less.

If anything can be said when it comes to the Spawn Period for Walleye fish as well as avid Walleye fisherman and sportsmen at the lodge or on the lake is that during this episode in their lives both are subjected and exposed to a great amount of stress on the Walleye fishing waters of the world..

Fishing Spots Around the Point Judith Area in Rhode Island

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

There are a number of fishing spots around Point Judith that can be very productive. Listed below are many of those areas describing where they are and methods to use for fishing them.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Outside the East Wall. On the outside of the East wall fishing in close you can work plugs and soft plastic baits in the pockets created by the wall. Be very careful as it can be dangerous when the wind is out of the south or southeast, driving you straight at the wall. You can also troll along the edge of the wall if the weather is calm, but be careful of the many lobster pots waiting to ambush you.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Outside the West Wall. On the outside of the West wall in close you can work plugs and soft plastic baits in the many pockets found along that wall. Be very careful as it can be dangerous when the wind is out of the south or southwest, driving you straight at the wall. Also beware of the fish trap located outside this wall. Trolling is also another option but beware of the many lobster pots on this side.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Outside the Center Wall. On the outside of the Center wall in close you can work plugs and soft plastic baits in the many pockets found along that wall. The best pocket is right to the east of the apex of the center wall. Be very careful as it can be dangerous when the wind is out of the south or southwest, driving you straight at the wall. It is best to work your way along the wall, hitting each pocket not spending a lot of time in any one area unless you actually catch a fish, then fish there till you stop catching and move on. Trolling is also another option but beware of the many lobster pots on this side. South of the center wall there are many rocks on the bottom which provide structure for bait to hide in. Sea Bass, Scup, and Stripers can be caught in this area. Drifting with bait or trolling are some of the methods that can be used here.

The Rocks at Point Judith. In front of (south) the rocks at point Judith you can work plugs and soft plastics, or use live bunker, shad, or scup to catch stripers. The water is under 20 feet deep here. Also there are some rocks that are submerged, be very careful and pay attention to your GPS chartplotter, most of them show the position of these rocks. You can also troll this area, just stay away from the lobster pots which are not so much of a issue here.

Inside the center wall when big waves break over the top onto the inside. Under these conditions bass will hang on the inside looking for bait which is thrown up over the top of the wall by the wave action, so they can pounce on it while the bait is still disoriented. Topwater plugs or soft plastic baits that mimic the fish they are feeding on will work.

Near the fish trap inside the east wall. The fish trap inside the East wall catches a lot of fish and many times there are fish struggling against the net to get free. The vibrations put out by these struggles will attract predators. Plugs and soft plastics can be used to catch them. Be careful of the ropes and buoys, you can get tangled up or drift into them if you're not careful.

East side of Point Judith. In close to the shore on the east side of the point there are some large boulders and pockets that can hold fish. Care needs to be taken when approaching as many of the rocks are submerged and not visible except by the eddies that occur around them. Plugs and soft plastic baits will produce here. Trolling can also be productive in somewhat deeper water here away from the rocks. In the fall many boat charters can be seen in this area.

Inside the Harbor of Refuge. In the early morning you can sometimes see fish chasing bait on the surface. If you pay attention the rewards can be many. This is not always accompanied by bird activity, so don't assume that birds are your only indicator. Also, the fish don't necessarily jump out of the water, they may just swirl the surface, and these swirls are harder to spot. This is good advice anywhere outside the harbor of refuge as well.

All of these areas around Point Judith are best fished in the morning between 6:00am and 10:00am. It is also necessary for the tide to be running. In the fall they can be extremely productive areas. Try them out and see what you think.

Have a Falmouth Fling

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

The expansive East coast offers an array of delights in the form of big cities, historic settlements and quaint fishing villages, all of which serve as someone's preferred spot or sentimental favorite in terms of vacationing. There are several contenders for all-around best getaway location, but there's one that offers a pretty solid resume for your consideration. Falmouth (pronounced like Plymouth) in Cape Cod has a way of charming visitors into a state of deep repose, and has enough complexity to fill several days of exploration.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Located a bit north of Portland on the coast of Maine, Falmouth has nearly 70 miles of coastline and is known for the warmest water in the area. Public beaches allow these qualities to be properly enjoyed by those who travel here, allowing a land that sees cold winters to wake up and prove that you don't have to go south to have fun in the sun. Old Silver Beach is a popular choice, as is Chapoquoit. Swimming, strolling and soaking in the charming New England atmosphere from this vantage point will start your Falmouth vacation off on the right foot.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

To further enjoy the natural gifts of the region, become immersed by taking a kayak tour through the Great Salt Marsh. This will be a fun activity even for beginners (you don't have to be in peak physical condition to paddle along with the tides) and offers excellent chances for bird watching. Snowy egrets, swans, Great Blue Herons, and Oyster Catchers are a few of the indigenous species that will probably be glimpsed, so don't forget the binoculars. Also, keep your eyes open in case a fox, deer or coyote happens to slink by. The marshland of Cape Cod is full of surprises.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Ashumet Holly and Wildlife Sanctuary consists of 45 miles of nature trails that will continue to awaken outdoorsy instincts and show off the lovely scenery. This is also the point of departure for seal cruises and ferries to Cuttyhunk Island. More challenging hiking paths can be found in Beebe Woods, and several more acres of picnic grounds and forests make for additional chances to get lost in the landscape.

After all these down-to-earth excursions, you and your traveling companions might be interested in checking out the town. A friendly atmosphere will only encourage shopping in the funky establishments and antique stores, people-watching and sampling the local fare. Art galleries also line the streets, so be sure to nurture your aesthetic impulses by observing what local artists are up to. A children's museum and the Falmouth Historical Society Museums and Colonial Garden invite visitors to take home a better understanding of the human narratives that have occurred on these grounds by means of tours, lectures and exhibits. There's no need to let your brains go unused during this vacation.

Book stores, movie theatres, amusement parks, tennis courts, horseback riding and more will fill in any gaps you may find in your schedule. Actually, it'll be more about picking and choosing the best options than trying, against the odds, to have a good time. To match its diverse outskirts, Falmouth has a little bit of everything within its city limits including a progressive mindset, visually pleasing streets and architecture, and plenty of entertainment options. Most people think "sleepy" and "old-fashioned" when they picture typical coastal Maine towns; these stereotypes may not hold up after a detailed inspection of this little gem.

Enhance the experience by electing to stay in a vacation rental. Falmouth is host to several of them, each one different than the next but highly comfortable and filled with amenities. Nothing beats a coastal cottage or sprawling beach house when it comes to making a holiday go smoothly. From family reunions to romantic weekend getaways, there's a Falmouth Vacation Rental waiting to accentuate what is already shaping up to be a fine trip.

Choosing Falmouth from among the myriad vacation destinations out there is a smart choice. Its appeal is broad, a little quirky, and definitely capable of enchanting travelers of all disposition, so be open to the pleasures that can come from a visit to this Cape Cod diamond in the rough.

Kayak Fishing Tips

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Kayak fishing has gained popularity in recent years, mostly due to the relatively minor cost of the equipment. Kayaks are small, usually single person, watercraft that can be propelled without the means of a motor. There are some tips to consider when investigating entering the sport of kayak fishing. A few of these tips include safety and stability of the watercraft, the fishing equipment itself and the comfort of the fisherman. Some kayak manufacturers offer models specifically geared toward kayak fishing tips, which may cost a bit more than a traditional kayak but will, in the end, provide the comfort and stability needed for fishing.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Safety and stability should be the first things to look for when investigating the purchase of a kayak specifically for fishing. Some of the kayaks specially designed for fishing offer stability features such as twin hull, wide beam and outrigger designs to offer the maximum safety in the water while fishing. Some of the twin hull models on the market today are even stable enough to paddle and fish while standing in the craft. Wide beam style kayaks offer a wider stance in the water, often up to three feet wide, to provide the fisherman with more side-to-side stability. Kayaks with outriggers look much like native islander fishing vessels, with beams and fins to one side to stabilize the vessel in choppy water.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

The fishing techniques and equipment used when fishing from a kayak are very similar to standard fishing. The major differences are found in the way the equipment is carried aboard the kayak and how the equipment is used in the smaller craft. Many currently popular fishing kayaks can be equipped with modern devices such as rod holders, electronic fish-finders and live bait containers. Anglers who fish from kayaks often include large game fish such as tarpon, tuna, king mackerel and even marlin, in their targets.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

The ultimate comfort of the fisherman is determined by his equipment, his choice of watercraft and how the equipment and craft come together. With modern kayak production techniques, it is relatively inexpensive to join in the sport of kayak fishing. Even though it was long assumed that speed was required for effective trolling of large game fish, modern kayak fishermen have found sport in launching their kayaks from larger boats further offshore in order to experience the exhilaration of being pulled through the water by large game fish as they chase their dreams.

The Rich Natural Resources of Alaska

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Alaskans take pride in their state's natural resources. Three of them-- gold, fish and fur-- are well known. These three resources have been worth many times the sum that the United States paid Russia for this piece of land. However, for the future, Alaska is beginning to look to other resources, especially oil and petroleum.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Alaska is rich in vegetation resources. There are two kinds of forests in the state: the interior forest and the coastal forest. The interior forests are found around the river valleys of the interior area and as far north as the central and eastern parts of the Brooks Range. Most of the timber harvested is mainly willow and aspen but much of the forest growth is stunted because of the short growing season and permafrost. The coastal forests on the other hand, begin in the Panhandle and spread throughout the coast of the Gulf of Alaska well into Kodiak Island. These forests are usually dense and made up of hemlock, cedar and spruce trees. Tundra vegetation is also common to much of Alaska. Most of it is made up of lichens, grasses, various mosses, cranberry vines and crowberries. When these plants die, they decay at a very slow rate mainly because of the dampness and low temperature of the area. Year after year, old plants pile up and new plants struggle to grow through them. The tundra vegetation in other parts of Alaska may also include dwarf species of trees and a number of bushes. The only extensive lands for grazing are found on the Aleutian Islands. If you're looking for true arctic tundra with absolutely no trees or shrubs, then you can check out the Arctic slope and Seward Peninsula.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

There is also a wide variety of animal life in an area the size of Alaska. The usual animals would be deer, mountain goats, black bears and moose, all commonly found in southeastern Alaska. Go up further north and grizzly bears start to appear. As you go into the interior lands, caribou begin to replace deer in numbers. It is not uncommon to see caribou travel in herds of thousands. Polar bears are found in the far north and spend most of their time out on the ice packs hunting food. Exotic animals that have been introduced to Alaska include the reindeer found in the Arctic areas, elk on some islands, musk oxen and bison. To conserve animal life on the peninsula, these animals are protected in wildlife ranges under the federal government. Wolves and foxes are also found in many parts of the state. Animals hunted for fur include the mink and beaver. A number of bird species also make Alaska their summer home or remain all year. Some of these include ducks, geese and grouse. The common game fishes are Grayling and rainbow trout. Commercial fish harvests depend mainly on cod, halibut and salmon. In fact, the king salmon is the state fish. Shellfish is also plentiful and a large industry is built on harvesting shrimp, crabs and clams.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Deposits of gold and silver are known to exist in almost every region of Alaska. So much has been said about the gold that people are sometimes surprised to learn that Alaska has also other mineral riches, like natural gas and petroleum. Geologists are still surveying the area for other petroleum sites. The Panhandle is known to contain important minerals such as nickel, zinc and lead. Mineral deposits of the Gulf of Alaska include mercury, platinum and copper. Alaska, with its many bodies of water, also generates power through the production of hydroelectricity.

Hawaii's Fish Of Summer

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

Despite all of the Hawaii big game fishing and blue-water diving depicted in postcards and the media, some of islands' most popular fishing involves nothing more than a hand pole with a hook and sinker or some ultra-light tackle and bit of local fishing savvy!

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

During the summer two small but highly popular Hawaii fish, the "oama", or juvenile goatfish, and the halalu, smaller siblings of a type of mackerel known in the islands as "akule," make their appearance at beaches and deeper near-shore waters throughout the state. And, when they do appear, so do Hawaii's local folks!

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

The owama (pronounced o-wa'-ma) run about seven inches and congregate in large schools in shallow water often right off the beach while the similar-sized halalu (ha-la-loo') are generally found in deeper water such as harbors or beaches with a quicker depth drop. Appearing as schools in the thousands, these "summer fish" usually stay in the same vicinity for a few weeks causing something of an attraction as scores of anglers congregate in the shallow waters, breakwaters, piers, or beaches where the schools might be present.

Cape Cod Rental Vacation

When the schools are in, word goes out on the grapevine through kids, moms and dads, seniors, and just about anyone who likes fishing! Prized as bait for larger fish but even more so as delicious table fare, the oama and halalu are more than just fish, they're an island tradition.

Driving around the islands, it's not uncommon to spot groups of unrelated individuals in circles or standing abreast in thigh- or waist-deep water off the beach with short bamboo poles. These folks are fishing for oama and stand together so as to keep the school in one place with the cumulative draw of their baited hooks. It's a subdued excitement as in near silence the anglers alternately jerk their poles to lift a small fighting fish out of the water and into the small scoop nets which are hung conveniently at their sides.

If you come across a scene with a large group of people using either extended hand poles or ultra-light fishing tackle to cast and erratically reel in tiny feathered hooks or similar artificial bait, they're after the halalu. Like the groups fishing for oama, these larger crowds on the shore are fishing in a quiet so prevailing you can hear the splashing of the small fish as they're being reeled in. In these large groups you'll also find an array of styles for retrieving the lured hooks which characterizes the "pet" techniques that separate one angler from another.

Whether you have an appetite for the small fish or not, coming across either of these types of fishing scenes is a unique and interesting affair and one you'll probably only see in Hawaii. It's one of those things that go far beyond fishing. Rather, it's a slice of life that so many of us who've grown up in the islands return to year after year.

So as small as they may be, the oama and halalu play a big part of Hawaii's fishing scene and are as much or more a part of Hawaii fishing as sport fishing or diving. Indeed these small, seemingly insignificant fish are a big part of the fabric of life in these Hawaiian Islands... these two fish of summer!
